The Hogg Building was first the Alexander Hogg Elementary School. Originally built in 1910, it was first remodeled in 1936 and the remained vacant for years before being restored to charming loft living in 2000. This building was not only an education center for some 300 children, it was also home to the Couch family, who maintained the school, and lived in quarters in the sub-service level. Interestingly, one of their job duties was to make the ink for the students and teachers, and they used nothing more than a special powder and boiling water. The school, almost century later, now offers 24 beautifully restored homes that maintain much of the original character, including original hardwood floors and the tall windows once enjoyed by those who walked the hallways of the early 20th century school.
